Hello to all my beautiful and wonderful readers.

I’m writing to congratulate you. If you’re reading this right now, you’re alive, you haven’t quit, you haven’t given up. You are such a strong person. Many of you come here to look at the pretty pictures or skim through the quotes or learn something interesting. But others come here seeking answers, wanting to feel less alone, wishing to find comfort and hope. The latter, I really do congratulate you (of course I congratulate the former as well, but the latter gets a bit more of a special congrats). Wether I have helped in your being alive and reading this right now or not, I am happy you are here, the world would be less without you. I wish I could be next to you this very moment, hugging you, making you laugh, tickling you… anything.

Throughout the years her0in chic has received many thankful messages. You each know who you are, and I just want to say that I should be the one thanking you. When you were expressing your gratitude towards me with your beautiful and heartfelt words, I was getting the motivation to not give up on my own life and on my own deals. I may have helped you survive or change in some way, but you helped me, too. I wish this is what they meant when they say ‘an eye for an eye.’

I’ve also gained some wonderful friends, and even though I haven’t revealed my identity to them, I feel like our bond is stronger than the one I’ve had with any of my real life friends. I think that this is the meaning of true friendship. You know who you are, too. And I hope we always keep in touch. I love you more than words can say.

I’m always there for anyone who needs me. I enjoy opening Facebook and reading all your messages, even if they’re extremely long, they make me so happy. I read them and reply. And yes, I keep the secrets :) . So whenever you need to vent, talk to someone, ask for advice, you can write to me through e-mail [hello@her0inchic.com].

You can follow me on Twitter, where I post many quotes in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and French. Many of which I do not post on the blog, I’m sorry for that, and I promise in the future I’ll try to post the same content on both places for those that don’t have Twitter.

There’s also the Facebook page, where I try to post daily motivational statuses and pictures. Some of which I also do not post on the blog. And you can also find the her0inchic challenge there.

I love each and every one of you that press like, that write comments, that write wall posts, that retweet, that send me messages, everything. I really do, and I am constantly wishing you the best and sending you good vibrations.

I will always be here for you. I love you.

I am touching my screen as I write this. I am thinking of you as I write this. I am picturing you smiling and laughing as I write this. I am wishing you peace as I write this. I send you love.

As you read this.

“The program for this evening is not new. You’ve seen this entertainment through and through. You’ve seen your birth, your life and death. You might recall all the rest. Did you have a good world when you died? Enough to base a movie on?”

Jim Morrison

Yes, I was infatuated with you: I am still. No one has ever heightened such a keen capacity of physical sensation in me. I cut you out because I couldn’t stand being a passing fancy. Before I give my body, I must give my thoughts, my mind, my dreams. And you weren’t having any of those.

My heart stopped. It just stopped beating. And for the first time in my life, I had that feeling. You know, like the world is moving all around you, all beneath you, all inside you, and you’re floating. Floating in midair. And the only thing keeping you from drifting away is the other person’s eyes. They’re connected to yours by some invisible physical force, and they hold you fast while the rest of the world swirls and twirls and falls completely away.

I’ve never understood why looking hot had to be equated with sex and conquest. Whatever happened to anticipation, to courtship, to true love? Can’t a person look hot and not have it mean something? Call me an old-fashioned Naomi bitch, but I’m holding out for true love. Even if it’s an unattainable fantasy

I am proud that I defy your categories. I am proud that I don’t fit easily into any box. I am proud of all the things I am and all the things i can be. Question yourself every time you think you only see one thing in me.

We’ve entered the “12 Days of Gaga.” That’s what Barneys is calling the countdown from Wednesday until 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 21, when the luxury retailer’s Madison Avenue flagship opens “Gaga’s Workshop,” a holiday extravaganza with over-the-top window displays and limited-edition products created in collaboration with Lady Gaga.

Shoppers will enter through the store’s 60th Street entrance, which will be tricked out to make people feel like they’re walking into the mouth of a giant monster-like Lady Gaga, Barneys officials said. The displays are also under the creative direction of Gaga’s stylist, Nicola Formichetti.

To build anticipation, each day before the opening, a new limited-edition product will be released on the workshop’s official countdown website.

This could quite possibly be the most hyped fashion collaboration of the decade! Above is the highly anticipated high energy commercial for the project starring top models Daphne Groeneveld, Lindsey Wixson, River Viiperi, and Donatella Versace herself. Be sure to check out www.hm.com to find out if the collab will be sold in an H&M store near you!

In an effort to illustrate just how many photos are posted to the web each and every day, Erik Kessels put together an exhibition for Foam that consists of every single photo posted on Flickr within a 24-hour period.

The result? A ceiling-high stack of over 1 million photos that required multiple rooms to hold.

“We’re exposed to an overload of images nowadays,” Kessels said. “By printing all the images uploaded in a 24-hour period, I visualise the feeling of drowning in representations of other peoples’ experiences.”

Mind not sufficiently blown? Flickr represent a paltry percentage of total online photo uploads. By comparison, Facebook users post 25 times as many photos, every day.

The Moses Bridge, as its name suggests, is pedestrian bridge that creates the illusion of walking through water — in this case, the West-Brabant waterline near Fort de Roovere in the Netherlands.

Designed by RO & AD Architects, the bridge was built using Accoya wood, a type of modified wood that offers the enhanced durability necessary to sustain a sunken bridge.

Abducted Washington Nationals catcher Wilson Ramoswas rescued yesterday by Venezuelan forces after being held captive by gunmen for over 50 hours.

“The truth is I’m still very nervous, but thanks to God everything turned out well,” Ramos told local media.

According to the country’s communications minister, Andres Izarra, Ramos was located in Montalban, a town in the state of Carabobo, some 40 miles northwest of his home in Valencia where he was kidnapped by three armed assailants.

Five men were arrested in connection with the abduction. Among them, a Colombian “linked to paramilitary groups and to kidnapping groups.” Ramos confirmed that some of the men were Colombian, identifying them by their accent.

“They simply told me to cooperate, that they were going to ask for a ton of cash for me,” he recounted. “They put me in a room with a bed. I was lying there. It was hard for me to think about, if I was going to get out alive first of all…about how my family, my mother were.”

He noted that he was severely shaken by the incident, but did not experience physical harm.

As for his return to baseball: “As soon as I feel all right, I’m going to start playing.”

Jacob Anthony Saydeh was born today, the 11th day of the 11th month of 2011 at precisely 11:11 AM.

Wait, it gets better: The boy’s mother, Danielle, is an Air Force vet — and today just so happens to be Veterans Day.

Aaaand baby Jacob weighed exactly 11 pounds, 11 ounces!

Nah, just joshing. He weighed 8 & 13. How cool would that have been, though? You know, besides the whole “being abnormally heavy for a newborn” thing.

Buddy and Pedro, the gay African penguins who made headlines earlier this week after it revealed that the Toronto Zoo intends to separate them so they can be matched with females for mating, will not be apart for long.

The zoo’s Curator of Invertebrates and Birds, Tom Mason, told PinkNews.co.uk that the split was necessary for the survival of the endangered species, but the pair-bonded penguins would be reunited as soon as the mating period is over.

According to Mason, Buddy and Pedro will only be separated if they do not show interest in mating with females.

“There will be a limited time of separation but it will not be permanent,” he said. “No matter what happens all the penguins will be re-united by spring.”

What comes easy, won’t always last. And what will last, won’t always come easy.

Personal transformation can and does have global effects. As we go, so goes the world, for the world is us. The revolution that will save the world is ultimately a personal one. – Marianne Williamson

Start doing the things you think should be done, and start being what you think society should become. Do you believe in free speech? Then speak freely. Do you love the truth? Then tell it. Do you believe in an open society? Then act in the open. Do you believe in a decent and humane society? Then behave decently and humanely.

Occupy Wall Street activists clash with police every week; many are injured and media attention to the cause grows but what seems to have been forgotten is the trauma that the incidents cause police horses.

The NYPD are riding horses into stressful and chaotic situations. Thousands of screaming activists waving signs and banners clash with armored police with pepper spray and bull horns and police horses are caught in the middle. This is not an environment that horses should be forced into on a daily basis.

Horses in these situations become extremely agitated and all the stress and excitement can lead to serious injuries. In 2010, the NYPD euthanized two horses for abscessed and swollen leg injuries which made it nearly impossible for them to travel.

The stress on these horses is not only physical but mental. There are numerous cases around the world of police horses becoming so overwhelmed during mass protests that they become uncontrollable, trampling and biting police and protesters. The only solution is to ask police to end the use of police horses.

Help convince the NYPD to not use police horses when confronting crowds at Occupy Wall Street demonstrations by signing this petition today.

That something as simple as a good photograph can increase the likelihood of an abandoned dog being adopted is well documented.

Emily Tanen had witnessed the effects of a professional photoshoot on an unwanted dog’s chances first hand during her time at the Manhattan branch ofAnimal Care and Control of New York City, when she took it upon herself to upgrade the shelter operator’s disposable camera to her own $1,500 Nikon, only to see the number of rescued dogs increase.

Hired as a liaison between ACCNYC and the groups that rescue shelter animals, Tanen says she was eventually fired for going out of her way to take better photos of pit bulls in a last-ditch effort to save them from being euthanized.

Tanen was told that she had violated the policy that prohibits photographing the dogs interacting with humans.

“I think they just didn’t want photos of animals that they were about to kill looking cute and adoptable and happy with people,” she says, “but they said it was because their research showed that photos with people didn’t encourage people to adopt.”

Sadly, for many of the dogs in ACCNYC’s care, Tanen was the last line of defense. Rescue groups would often be persuaded by her photos to take animals they would otherwise have passed on.

“I still remember Domino’s photo — the first pit bull we pulled from Manhattan,”Dog Habitat Rescue founder Jay Lombard said. “He was within 12 hours of being destroyed when Emily snapped a photo of him and attached it to an e-mail. That image hit me hard and I couldn’t turn away.”

Above: Compare Tanen’s handiwork with the ACCNYC’s sorry excuse for a snapshot.

A sedated Black Rhino is transported by airfrom South Africa’s Eastern Cape to a new habitat in the northeastern province of Limpopo as part of the WWF Black Rhino Range Expansion Project — an ambitious conservation campaign that aims to “increase the range and numbers of black rhino in South Africa.”

Nature conservation organisations are fighting an uphill battle to save the critically endangered species, as rumors of the rhino horn’s cancer-curing abilities fuel poaching that has claimed the lives of over 350 rhinos in South Africa this year alone.

There are believed to be fewer than 4,240 Black Rhinos remaining.

Research conducted at Cornell University has found that, despite the average Facebook user boasting 130 friends, many today have only two people they would consider “close friends.”

Though that number is down from an average of three 25 years ago, this doesn’t necessarily mean we are becoming more socially isolated.

“Rather than our networks getting smaller overall, what I think may be happening is we’re simply classifying a smaller proportion of our networks as suitable for important discussions,” Prof. Matthew Brashears said. “This is reassuring in that it suggests that we’re not becoming less social.”

The assistant professor of sociology, who surveyed over 2,000 adults, found that the number of people with zero confidantes has not increased over the years, as a 2006 study speculated.

However, Brashears readily admits that the figures used in previous studies might be flawed, and calls for better data to be compiled.

Still, a shrinking number of confidantes can be detrimental: “Discussion partners provide both emotional support and ideas for how to solve problems,” Brashears noted, “so a shrinking discussion network may lead to more stress and poorer outcomes.”
