Tommy: Picture, poetry and sculpture say something about yourself. That’s the whole thing about art, isn’t it? It says what’s inside of you, it reveals your soul.
And I realized as I walked through the neighborhood how each house could contain a completely different reality. In a single block, there could be fifty seperate worlds. Nobody ever really knew what was going on just next door.
We can spend our lives letting the world tell us who we are. Sane or insane. Saints or sex addicts. Heroes or victims. Letting history tell us how good or bad we are. Letting our past decide our future. Or we can decide for ourselves. And maybe it’s our job to invent something better.
People are always complaining that life’s not fair, but that simply isn’t true. Life is extraordinarily fair. It’s just not centered on you.
