It’s showtime for the zip-zap circus in Cape Town. All these children are HIV-positive. But that doesn’t prevent them from living a very active and creative live, because they are all receiving antiretroviral treatment.
In a five-part video series, MSF demonstrates tools and models that could help make improved treatment accessible to many more. Between June 8-10, 2011, world leaders will meet in New York to decide on the future of the millions needing treatment urgently.
By sharing this video, help us spread the word that there is NO EXCUSE for governments to leave 10 million people untreated! Seedoctorswithoutborders.org/stopthevirus for more info.

18% Of Americans Implement Meatless Mondays.
Two surveys from two different sources have come back with surprising results about the awareness and impact of Meatless Monday.
The first, commissioned by the Meatless Monday organization and performed by research firm FGI Research, found that 50.22% of Americans are at least “aware” of Meatless Monday. Shocking mostly because the same survey conducted 6-months ago found that only 30% of Americans were “aware” of Meatless Monday. That’s a 20% jump in 6-months.
Alright…people know it exists!
Getting excited about awareness alone might seem silly but other surveys are finding that awareness is translating into real positive action. The American Meat Institute commissioned a study and found that 18% of Americans are “implementing meatless Mondays.” That’s almost 60 million people practicing some form of Meatless Monday.
Meatless Monday is a great campaign because it’s so easy to implement and promote. Everyone from hardcore vegans to theUS military are encouraging people to avoid meat at least one day a week. Just a small change in what someone eats can have a huge impact on their health, the lives of animals, and the planet.
What do you think, can we get awareness up to 20% more in the next 6-months?
Our real enemies are not those living in a distant land whose names or policies we don’t understand; The real enemy is a system that wages war when it’s profitable, the CEOs who lay us off our jobs when it’s profitable, the Insurance Companies who deny us Health care when it’s profitable, the Banks who take away our homes when it’s profitable. Our enemies are not several hundred thousands away. They are right here in front of us.
The chief Raoni cries when he learns that brazilian president Dilma released the beginning of construction of the hydroelectric plant of Belo Monte, even after tens of thousands of letters and emails addressed to her and which were ignored as the more than 600 000 signatures. That is, the death sentence of the peoples of Great Bend of the Xingu river is enacted. Belo Monte will inundate at least 400,000 hectares of forest, an area bigger than the Panama Canal, thus expelling 40,000 indigenous and local populations and destroying habitat valuable for many species – all to produce electricity at a high social, economic and environmental cost, which could easily be generated with greater investments in energy efficiency.
It was brought to my attention that there is a petition we all can sign to help support these indigenous people and the Amazon. Please take a second to check it out below or comparable petitions that are available. Thank you.
