Dw by Kanye West Spring/Summer 2012 | Paris Fashion

Well would you look at that! Kanye’s done a mighty fine job here! But does this collection really live up to the hype it’s gotten? Either way, (even though he was a tad bit late to his own show) Mr. West has just made history! This collection (dedicated to his deceased mother) is a mix of sex, funk, and power: love it! What are YOUR thoughts on ‘Ye’s latest work?

Kanye West went to a fabric wholesaler in East London called London Trimmings, twice, and spent £14,000 (or nearly $22,000) on fabric and zippers. Best of all, he took time out of his busy designing schedule to pose for a photo with store owner Ashraf Loonat’s family and join them for a cup of tea.

The BBC reports:

“He turned up unexpectedly at first. He was very polite, interested in what we had to say,” [Loonat] revealed.

“What was really good was when I asked him [Kanye] why he was here himself he said, ‘I want to work from the ground upwards, I don’t want to leave it to someone else.'”

The rapper was without a large entourage on the shopping trip.

“He just had a couple of people with him,” said Ashraf Loonat.

The singer bought zips and fabrics in two trips to the shop.

The second time Kanye West visited the wholesaler, Ashraf Loonat asked if he wanted a cup of tea.

“We offered him a cup of tea and he said ‘Thank you very much, one sugar please.’ We got the kettle on for him and I was surprised he accepted it.”

According to the show invitation, the line is called Dw Kanye West, which is thought to stand for his late mother’s initials (her name was Donda West), and is being repped by international PR firm Karla Otto, whose client roster has also included Jil Sander, Viktor & Rolf, Emilio Pucci, and Marni, among others.
