RIP: The two-year-old girl from Foshan, China, who was left for dead on the street after a double hit-and-run, has passed away.
The hospital where Yueyue had been under intensive care for the last seven days announced the sad news at a press briefing this morning.
CCTV footage showing over a dozen people ignoring the critically wounded toddler enraged the Chinese public, sparking heated discussions about morality and community. The topic remains a popular one on the country’s social networks.
Heartbreaking Tearjerker: Gordon Yeager, 94, and his wife Norma, 90, lived together for 72 years. Last week, after a tragic car accident, they died together, one hour apart, holding hands.
The couple got married in 1939, the day Norma graduated from high school. They lived their whole lives in the small town of State Center, Iowa, where they raised four children.
“Staying together for 72 years is good, I’d say that’s exceptional,” daughter Donna Sheets said. “They always did everything together. They weren’t apart. They just weren’t.”
True to their nature, the Yeagers were together last Wednesday at the intersection of Highway 30 and Jessup Avenue outside Marshalltown, where their car struck another car head on. They were brought into the ICU ofMarshalltown’s hospital together, holding hands.
Gordon passed away shortly thereafter.
“It was really strange, they were holding hands, and dad stopped breathing but I couldn’t figure out what was going on because the heart monitor was still going,” son Dennis Yeager told KCCI. “But we were like, he isn’t breathing. How does he still have a heart beat? The nurse checked and said that’s because they were holding hands and it’s going through them. Her heart was beating through him and picking it up.” Norma passed away an hour later.
“Neither one of them would’ve wanted to be without each other,” said Sheets. Added Yeager: “They just loved being together.”

“We expect that there will be peace in Libya, and those who govern the state, will agree on the system of government,” Medvedev added.

Warning: this is video of Muammar Gaddafi’s corpse being kicked through the streets of Sirte. We’re posting it because at this point, it’s a video asset in the history books.
This video is super-graphic. But it also confirms, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that it’s him. Wow.
Apple closed its retail stores yesterday so that thousands of employees could pay tribute to Steve Jobs in a broadcast memorial. Apple CEO Tim Cook and former Vice-President Al Gore both spoke at the memorial. And shortly after Norah Jones and Coldplay performed, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin told the crowd to get back to work, because that’s what Steve would have wanted.
Some people are calling Apple’s new iPhone 4S disappointing, but Tech Editor Peter Ha says there’s way more than meets the eye.
Every facet of the camera has been improved, from start-up to white balance to rapid-fire shooting. With iOS 5, you can double-tap the home button while on the lock screen for a shortcut to the camera app, and you can edit images without the need for a third-party app. You’ll no longer have to sit and wait for the iris to open before snapping a photo. Face detection (for up to 10 faces) has been implemented into the 4S, and it works fairly well. Image quality has improved, with better exposure, white balance and low-light performance. There are far less noise, aberrations and over-exposure overall.
You can now capture full 1080p video from your iPhone. Image stabilization ensures that your shaky hands won’t ruin the moment, and the same noise cancellation that’s used for phone calls makes captured audio crystal clear.
…but you’re right, there’s probably no way we could cut that defense budget.
Shark “Massacres” Happen Every Day…We Just Don’t Hear About It
by Scott Henderson
Earlier this week, MSNBC reported a shark “massacre” in which hundreds of sharks were found dead aboard a fishing vessel captured while fishing illegally in the Galápagos Marine Reserve. Scott Henderson, director of Conservation International’s Eastern Tropical Pacific Seascape program and shark expert, responds.
I’ve … had the unfortunate experience of watching shark populations decline, mostly due to overfishing and illegal fishing in protected areas. However, thanks to improved policies to reduce shark fishing, better enforcement capacity through a state-of-the-art Vessel Monitoring System, and growing political commitment in Ecuador to control the hemorrhage of shark products — especially fins destined for the lucrative Chinese market — shark fishing in the Galápagos Marine Reserve has been greatly reduced in the past few years.
Which is why news of last week’s “shark massacre” has come as such an unsettling surprise.
To my mind, the newsworthy item in this story is not that a vessel ‘massacred’ some 380 sharks, as this sort of thing happens every day — around the clock, in all oceans, by vessels of nearly every seagoing nation in the world, including the United States…

It seems that Adam Levine, lead singer of Maroon 5, does not care for Fox News and would prefer if they didn’t play his music ever again. At least, that appears to be what he meant when hetweeted, “Dear Fox News, don’t play our music on your evil f—— channel ever again. Thank you.”
It isn’t clear what prompted him to send out the message but it isn’t the first time he’s attacked an entire network via Twitter.
Just this past August, Levine tweeted about his dissatisfaction with MTV, stating that they don’t actually care about music anymore. He seems to enjoy dropping the F-bomb at television networks.
Hopefully, Fox news will heed Levine’s warning, otherwise he may have to send a harshly worded letter.
Tom Boddingham is the proud owner of a brand new monster’s paw-shaped bed. One problem, though: He ordered a slipper.
Boddingham says the Chinese company that manufactures the slipper missed the decimal point in his custom order: He wanted a size 14.5 left, but got a size 1,450 instead.
“It was sent directly from Hong Kong and measures 210 x 130 x 65cms – the same length as a grizzly bear or a family car,” the 27-year-old from Ilford, East London, is quoted as saying. “I reckon I must be the owner of the biggest slipper in the world.”
The company has since apologized to Boddingham, and promised to send him a replacement slipper. Asked why the request for a XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXL monster’s paw didn’t raise any flags, a spokesman said the employees thought it was meant as a prop for a window display.
If your child is under 2, stop letting them watch TV. A new report from the American Academy of Pediatrics says TV or videos can harm an infant’s development, even delay the ability to speak.
Instead of allowing infants to passively watch moving images, parents should talk to them and encourage independent play, the AAP said.
The guidelines were needed because of the proliferation of DVDs targeted at the under-2 age group, said Dr. Ari Brown, a pediatrician in Austin, Texas, who is a member of the academy and the lead author of the report. He said an example is the Disney-owned “Baby Einstein” collection, which includes titles such as “Baby Van Gogh: World of Colors” and “Baby Beethoven Symphony of Fun.”
Children under 2 are too young to be able to understand the images on the screen, even if they’re from so-called educational videos, the report said.
We tested the iPhone 4S for speed on all three carriers — AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon Wireless — and the result was clear: AT&T offers the fastest, most consistent network speeds.
